Biography

Calyra is an Indie Rock/Pop singer-songwriter whose unique sound embodies both magic and madness. Born in Rhode Island and raised most of her life in California, she brings East Coast grit and West Coast soul into every note of her songs.

She first began writing music at the age of 7, after teaching herself piano, and had picked up her first guitar by 11. A lifelong dancer with classical ballet training from age 4, Calyra’s creative expression has always been rooted in movement, rhythm, and storytelling. Her choreography background breathes life into her songs with fluidity and honesty, with a fearlessness towards shifting between various genres of music.

Calyra’s music is shaped by a wide range of influences—from pop icons like Britney Spears and Taylor Swift to rock legends like Joan Jett, Guns N’ Roses and The Beatles, with lyrical inspiration drawn from artists like Eminem and Fleetwood Mac. This eclectic mix gives her sound a fresh, undefinable edge that resonates with listeners across generations and musical preferences.

Calyra has been writing music for as long as she can remember, using songwriting as a creative outlet and emotional anchor throughout her life. After years of putting her dreams on hold, she made the decision to fully pursue her goals and bring her music to life on her own terms. As a single mom, she returned to school to finish her degree, while balancing parenting and her growing dedication to music. During that time, she began teaching herself audio production—transforming her passion into a skillset.

From her home studio in Los Angeles, she’s been writing and self-producing her debut album, pouring years of experience, emotion, and ambition into every track. Driven by a deep desire to connect to fans through her music, each lyric, melody, and beat is carefully crafted to evoke the same sense of magic she feels when dancing or singing along to her own favorite songs. With a modern sensibility and a love for both analog and digital precision, Calyra’s sound is as timeless as it is new—dreamy, edgy, intimate, and cinematic, filled with nostalgia and forward-thinking, and infused with the kind of magic that makes a song, and an artist, unforgettable.
